Classes VI- VIII
Dear Parents,
Over the past four months, our students have settled well into Middle School and have gradually adapted to new routines, subject teachers and increased academic expectations. We appreciate the support and encouragement you have extended during this important phase of your child's educational journey.
We also recognise that many parents have questions regarding the assessment pattern in Middle School in Classes VI-VIII. We hope the following information will provide greater clarity and reassurance.
Class VI marks the beginning of a more structured academic programme in keeping with the CBSE curriculum. The emphasis is on developing conceptual understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, communication and the ability to apply knowledge rather than simply memorising facts.
In line with CBSE guidelines and the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, assessment is designed to be continuous, comprehensive and competency-based. A child's progress is therefore evaluated through a variety of means, including written assessments, class participation, subject enrichment activities, projects, practical work, presentations, assignments and regular classroom observations. Each of these components contributes to building a more complete picture of a student's learning and growth.
Keeping the above in mind, we would like to reiterate the different assessment patterns followed at Birla High School for Classes VI-VIII.
● Periodic Assessment- Pen Paper (Written tests)
● Multiple Assessments
● Subject Enrichment Assessment
Of the above-mentioned assessments please note that only Periodic Assessments are formal assessments that require prior preparation. Multiple Assessments and Subject Enrichment activities are assessments that are continuous and are aimed at building concepts and a strong foundation along with 21st century skills.
It is important to understand that a single assessment or examination does not define a child's academic ability. The purpose of assessment is not merely to assign marks but to identify strengths, address learning gaps, and provide meaningful feedback that supports continuous improvement.
The initial months of Class VI have also been a period of transition. As students become familiar with the expectations of Middle School, teachers continue to guide them in developing effective study habits, organisational skills, independent learning, and confidence. We have been encouraged by the progress our students have shown and remain committed to supporting every child according to their individual learning needs.
We value our partnership with you and remain committed to maintaining open communication. Should you have any concerns regarding your child's academic progress, you are encouraged to reach out to the respective subject teachers or the Class Teacher.
Please feel free to reach out to any of the following for any clarification or doubts-
The Principal : [email protected]
The Dean Academics : [email protected]
The Academic Coordinator : [email protected] (Class VI)
[email protected] (Class VII- VIII)
We would also like to inform parents that due to the delayed clarity with regard to R3 from the CBSE, a decision of not having the 3rd Language examination scheduled on 7th August, 2026 PA-I for Classes VI & VII, has been taken.
Together, we can ensure that every child continues to grow with confidence and enthusiasm.
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Mrs. Loveleen Saigal
Principal
